Castle Panic Board Game

Castle panic is a cooperative tower defense board game for 1 to 6 players, ages 10 and up. The co-op element makes castle panic a great family game and the perfect kick-off for your weekly game night.

You must work together to defend your castle, in the center of the board, from monsters that attack out of the forest, at the edges of the board. Trade cards, hit and slay monsters, and plan strategies together to keep your castle towers intact. The players either win or lose together, but only the player with the most victory points is declared the master slayer. Players must balance the survival of the group with their own desire to win.

  • Castle Panic is a cooperative, light strategy game
  • Players work together to defend their castle from monsters
  • 60 minutes playing time
  • 1-6 players
  • Ages 10+

After many months, my 9 year old son and I were fed up of playing Minecraft together so we were looking for a non-electronic alternative. My son likes board games and we enjoy Dungeon so I was after something with a similar feel. The great thing about Castle Panic is that it’s co-operative – the players either win as a team or lose as a team (we lost the first time we played it). The rules are very simple, amounting largely to following the sequence of actions in each move, and we found that we hardly needed to refer to the rule book at all even on our first go.
The premise is that your team must protect a castle made up of 6 outer walls and 6 inner towers. Monsters are spawned in the forest and make their way one space in towards the castle after each player move. Each player has 6 cards containing, in the main, specific attack characters each of which (in the main) can only attack monsters in a specific zone. During the turn, the player can trade a card so if, for example, I had a card that I couldn’t use because there are no monsters in that zone but which another player could use when the monsters step forward, we could trade. Other cards contain special events and, at the end of the go, each player draws two monster tokens so at least two new opponents will be placed on the board.
We spent around an hour playing it. It does involve luck as well as strategy but that’s a large part of the fun and frustration. The board itself is nicely put together and I can see us having many happy sessions playing this.
